Teaching Philosophy
As an art teacher, I am passionate about inspiring my students to explore their creativity and develop their skills. My approach to teaching is student-centred and project-based, with a focus on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition to my teaching experience, I am also an accomplished artist with a portfolio of work that i have created over the course of my studies.
I am currently in my fourth year in Limerick School Of Art and Design doing a B.Ed. in art and design education. Throughout my practice I have focused on mental health and ways art can be a creative outlet for complex emotions especially for young people who spend a lot of their time in educational environments. I'm interested in how art can benefit students' mental health and overall wellbeing and I want to take this into my career when i graduate.
As a future art teacher, my core values revolve around unlocking the diverse potential of art. I believe in showcasing to my students that art extends beyond conventional boundaries, serving as a powerful tool for emotional expression and personal development. In my classroom, I aim to foster an environment where creativity knows no limits, emphasizing the diverse potential of the art process. Through this sensory learning experience, I aspire to instil not only artistic skills but also a deeper understanding that art is a gateway to learning and self-discovery.
I believe that respect is a two-way street, and it’s important for both students and teachers to treat each other with dignity to foster a safe and comfortable learning environment. Creating a safe and supportive classroom is essential for student success. I encourage respect in the classroom by setting clear expectations for behaviour and modelling this behaviour myself.
