Artist statement

My passion for art as a young child began with portraiture and trying to draw something  as realistic as possible. later on I discoved digital art in my college education and slowly fell in love with it and began merging the two together. With an affinity for darker themes, my work delves into the intricacies of the human psyche, capturing the nuances of emotion and vulnerability. In my final year at College, I've dedicated my creative energy to shedding light on the pressing need for adequate mental health support in Ireland. Through my art, I aim to evoke empathy, provoke thought, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding mental well-being.

My artistic journey in a secondary school that, despite its limitations in resources and subject choices, became a nurturing ground for my passion. Faced with the challenge of pursuing art across various classes, I honed my skills and developed resilience. This unique experience shaped my artistic perspective, instilling in me a profound appreciation for the transformative power of creativity, even in the face of constraints. I know this experience with the supportive teachers I had have shaped me into not only the artist I am but the teacher I am.

Ardnacrusha site visit 4th year

These are some photos I took on our 4th year site visit to Ardnacrusha water power plant. These moody images I felt captured the complexities within the human mind and became a visual metaphor for my exploration of mental health. These photos initially started the development of my ideas and led me to where I am today in my current practice.

Year 4 interdisciplinary practice

In my final year I decided to specialise in personifying emotions and exploring the ways art can address important issues, such as mental health.  I have been working on creating a zine that focuses on the language and stigmas surrounding mental health in Ireland along with posters that connect with the zine. Through my work, I hope to raise awareness about mental health and wellbeing, and start important conversations surrounding these issues. I created surveys to gather anonymous responses to questions in relation to this topic to properly gain insights of  the process and experience of getting the required support. I want to create a comfortable environment for people to share and feel heard. Below are some examples of the development of my work so far.

3rd year interdisciplinary practice

My passion for art and teaching led me to explore the intersection of the human psyche and art. My third-year projects are a testament to the power of art to express deep emotions and connect with others.
